Paint, Podcasts, and Pop Culture: Welcome to the New(ish) Chapter

I am so happy to finally share my ultimate maternity leave project with you! Over the past few months, while my boys are napping and sleeping soundly at night, I’ve been quietly building something special behind the scenes.

If you’ve been following my creative journey for a while, this next chapter might feel like a full-circle moment.

Let me take you behind the curtain to share how we got here!

The Genesis: Where It All Began

This project actually started six years ago as a YouTube video series exploring fascinating people and biographies through portrait painting. We originally started filming them right out of our art studio during the quarantine lockdowns, pouring so much love into every canvas and story.

We filmed the very last video of that original series just days before I found out I was pregnant with my first.

Naturally, life took over! Between stepping into my then role at the museum, diving headfirst into motherhood, and opening up businesses in between, the brushes had to be put down for a bit. But I always knew this was a project waiting for the right moment to return.

What to Expect Now

Now, after six years, two pregnancies, and countless creative detours, I finally have the time (and the headspace) this project deserves.

While I originally planned to jump right back into the exact same video format (and I still might! I have about 10 scripts ready to go!), I decided to lean into the audio medium first. Until the full video series drops, you can catch me rolling out brand-new podcast episodes (on Spotify & Youtube) and bite-sized shorts (on TikTok, Meta and Youtube) all about fascinating art history facts sprinkled with juicy pop culture lore.

It is such a full-circle joy. Making those original videos was pure fun, and they unexpectedly led to the coolest opportunities and amazing new acquaintances. I am so excited to see where this new audio adventure takes me, and I’ve been having an absolute blast recording them.

The Ultimate Hyperfixation

At the end of the day, I love writing, I love telling stories, and I am endlessly obsessed with pop culture. This project is quite literally the ultimate collision of all my favorite hyperfixations and a wonderful excuse to teach, laugh, and engage with curious minds all over the world.

These episodes will grow and evolve as all things do. As long as it stays fun (and until life decides to point us in a brand-new direction!), I’ll keep making them.
